Band: Through A Glass, Darkly
Album: SPERAMVS MELIORA || RESVRGET CINERIBVS
Released: 07-10-2025

Well, what a discovery this band has been! Through A Glass, Darkly’s latest juggernaut, SPERAMVS MELIORA || RESVRGET CINERIBVS is something special. It's a towering, all-consuming experience, simple as that! It’s a record that doesn’t so much play as it engulfs. It’s this hypnotizing avalanche of distortion and despair, a monumental wall of sound that feels as though it could level cities and shatter your soul. Each track on this album unfolds like a slow-motion collapse, perfectly detonated, only to rebuild itself from the debris and rise once more. Interestingly enough, all of this makes more sense when you know that album’s Latin title translates to “We hope for better things, it will rise from the ashes.”
SPERAMVS MELIORA || RESVRGET CINERIBVS is heaviness with purpose. It’s vast, overwhelming, and emotionally harrowing at times. Drawing from the sprawling bleakness of Tunnel Blanket-era This Will Destroy You, Through A Glass, Darkly shape their sound into something both punishing and transcendent. The guitars drone and tear you asunder like tectonic plates grinding together, while the drums rumble deep enough to break your bones. Fans of epic, longform compositions are rewarded with moments of absolute and devastating beauty, reminding me of the unflinching gravity of bands like Fourteen Nights At Sea and Glacier.
What sets this album apart is its sense of rebirth through ruin. From the opener, We Birthed With Daggers to the devastatingly abrupt ending of In Quiet Hopes Of Absolution there lies a slow burning melody caught up in a cyclonic storm. It’s a record that crushes you, then lifts you to great heights such is the intense power and devastation it exhales. SPERAMVS MELIORA || RESVRGET CINERIBVS isn’t just another post-everything release, it’s a statement of endurance. It was genuinely an emotional rollercoaster for me and is already a serious album-of-the-year contender, Through A Glass, Darkly’s SPERAMVS MELIORA || RESVRGET CINERIBVS is a soaring testament to post-music’s brutal grace, it's a collision of ruin and rebirth where both ferocity and beauty merge with unfathomable force.

First song has taken me hostage for the rest of the album. Rich with sounds, the way i like it.
